12 Dishes on My Birthday

Nothing is more special than celebrating your special day with the ones you love, in my case my husband and two kids and our only immediate relative nearby hubby’s elder sister and her family are already enough. The bonus part is having our friends who we seldom see made the effort and drove almost two hours to get here.

My birthday falls on a Sunday, and a supposedly rest day for me, because my regular work is only from Monday to Friday 8AM-5PM but it turned out I have to be at the office for an overtime work. My colleague was out town and cannot cover the work for me, I have no choice but to go to the office and do the tasks. By noon break, I hurriedly went home, my guests were already there waiting for the celebrant. 

The celebration was simple, yet we actually had 12 dishes + the rice. So without further ado, here are the twelve dishes prepared on my 37th Birthday, all in small amounts more than enough for 10 (7 large and 3 medium frame) adults and 3 kids to devour.

1. 2kg Lechon Baboy
2. 1kg Pork Humba
3. 1kg Chicken Barbeque
4. 1kg Chicken Liver Barbeque
5. 1kg Beef Steak
6. ½ kg Shrimps
7. 1kg Grilled Fish
8. Small Chocolate Chiffon Cake by Goldilocks
9. 400g Macaroni Fruit Salad
10. Fresh Vegetable-Fruit Salad (Lettuce, cucumber, singkamas & apple)
And presenting the specialty of the house the....

9” Leche Flan

9” Red Cherry Cheesecake

It was a good decision to prepare four of the dishes the night before. Yep, I already made the leche flan, cherry cheesecake on Saturday night, while our helper cooked the humba and beefsteak, then marinated the chicken and chicken liver to be barbequed the following day. On Sunday, it was hubby’s turn to cook the shrimps, mix the macaroni fruit salad and prepare the vegetable salad. As for the lechon baboy we asked our friends who will be coming over from Iligan to buy 2kg of lechon baboy. Lechon baboy in Iligan City is still the best for us.

For us, having more dishes at smaller amount is the better option for small celebration at home.


You probably think that I have prepared a lot. Actually the foods were not only served for lunch because our friends stayed over until dinner. The following day meron pa naiwan at binaon ko naman sa office. :-)
